International Exhibitions
 

 

1st International

  1st International Exhibition was held in 1998. In this exhibition 3 countries participated, including Egypt, United Kingdom and Pakistan.

 

2nd International

  Inaugurated by the President of Pakistan, Muhammad Rafique Tarar, the 2nd International Exhibition & Competition was held in 1999. In this exhibition 8 countries participated, including China, Egypt, France, Iran, Jordan, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.

Five calligraphers and calligraph-artists of China, Egypt and Uzbekistan attended the exhibition. They also visited the historic places in Lahore and a centre of traditional arts, the town of Chiniot.

 

3rd International

  Inaugurated by The President of Pakistan, Muhammad Rafique Tarar, the 3rd International Exhibition & Competition was held in 2000. Countries which participated included China, Iran, Jordan, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.

  Three calligraphers and Calligraph-artists from China and Jordan attended personally and conducted workshops at the National College of Arts, Lahore.

 

4th International

  The 4th International Exhibition & Competition, held in 2004, was the largest event of its kind in the country’s history. 19 countries participated including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Canada, China, India, Iran, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Morocco, Sudan, Syria, Turkey and Qatar and United Kingdom.

The exhibition inaugurated by the Federal Minister for Culture, Government of Pakistan.

Postage Stamp

At this occasion the Government of Pakistan issued a Commemorative Postage Stamp and First Day Cover. The stamp was designed by Ayaz Ali Syed, a distinguished graphic-artist and a founding member of PCG.

 

Seminar

The inauguration programmes lasted for three days. On first day was the opening of the International Exhibition & Competition. On second day a Seminar on Calligraphy & Calligraph-art was held. An international panel of speakers presented papers. The speakers were M. Athar Tahir, prize-winning author of books on Pakistani art, calligraphy & Calligraph-art, Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali, former Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Dr. Arifa Sayeda Zehra a renowned scholar, Farid Al-Ali  well-known Calligraph-artist from Kuwait, Amin Gulgee, a leading Pakistani Calligraph-art sculptor, Ms. Nusrat Ali, Keeper of Paintings, Lahore Museum, Dr. Shaukat Mahmood, a leading authority on monumental calligraphy from Malaysia and Dr, Feti Mehdui, an Albanian Professor of Islamic Studies. The session was chaired by H. E. Khalid Maqbool, Governor Punjab, who later inaugurated the exhibition of Manuscripts.

 

Children’s Competition

On the third day there was a competition of calligraphy for school children in four, age-wise, categories. This event was co-sponsored by the Punjab Textbook Board.

 

Nine calligraphers, Calligraph-artists and scholars from Albania, India, Iran, Qatar, Kuwait and Malaysia attended the event.
