Government of Pakistan issued a comemorative stamp on the
PCG 4th International Exhibition and Competition of Calligraphy and Calligraph-Art
2004 |
Introduction
The Pakistan Calligraph Artists Guild was founded in the
golden jubilee year of Pakistan, 1997.It is the only registered non-Government,
walfare organization in Pakistan dedicated to the time-honoured heritage
of penmanship. This important tradition of human endeavour is under
serious threat because of the current technologicalemphasis. The PCG
depends purely on its own initiative and has taken upon itself to:Preserve,
promote and propagate traditional Calligraphy and modern Calligraph-art
in all forms including sculpture. PCG was established to save this
more than a millennium old tradition from extinction.Lahore had been
a great centre of this widely practiised art since the eleventh century-the
Ghaznavidperiod on Lahore had seen flowering of many scriptsand added
striking vaiations. under the Mughal dynasty it became known throuout
SouthAsia and the Middle east for its superb penmanship.Independence of
Pakistan only in Lahore , an estimated157 schools of calligraphy flourished.
Now unfortunately there arehardly any.In order to address the current
object state of affairs, this collective was founded. All scripts by the
pen and brush are the domain of the PCG founded. more>
